Happy New Year from our Chairman

31 Dec 2023 by Lisa magee

As we sign off 2023 I feel we need to remind ourselves of what a fantastic year it has been for the club.

Our 1st team winning a historical treble, playing out an incredible and remarkable 11 month footballing campaign.

Our Senior Ladies team taking to the field for the very 1st time and completing a successful season finishing runners up in the Northern Ireland Women’s Football Association Development League.

We showcased our underage teams in the Inaugural Natalie McNally tournament and the Michael Ginesi tournaments in the summer, all which received massive praise from teams all over the country that attended.

We have boys and girls teams representing the club in the The Mid Ulster Youth League and Lisburn Castlereagh Junior League at all age groups with some of the accomplished GDC teams testing themselves in competitive leagues.

Well done to the LCJL Shield Winners and Runners Up who played this weekend.

Throphies, medals and most importantly football smiles have been in abundance in 2023 and we look to broaden the football smiles in 2024,😁.

I have recieved personal messages from friends and strangers about the clubs engagement within the community, praising our charity contributions, with us welcoming SANDS United FC ABC, Just A Chat, Women’s Aid ArmaghDown to Knockramer Park and making friends along the way.
Our Over 35 Mens team competing in the Emerge Invitational League and hosting the numerous charity matches has helped build on that community engagement.

The club is moving in the right direction on and off the field.

As we look ahead we again will be making history as we host a 5th Round Irish Cup game for the first time as we play Ballymacash Rangers Football Club at Knockramer Park on Saturday 6th January 2024.

We will get a chance to showcase our thriving academy with exhibition half-time games. We have mascots and family members leading out our first team squad highlighting the buy in there has been from the playing squad and their families as the dedication involved allows them to spearhead the clubs growth on the field and equally get behind the campaigns to improve the club off the field.

Hospitality and celebrations can only ever be achieved with good people working hard in the background and in writing this I know the hard work continues and after the Irish Cup game ‘The Doers’ can all enjoy the evening and raise a glass to each other as the club steps into 2024 with ever growing ambitions.

Whatever the outcome we are winning as a club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the managers, coaches, volunteers, players, parents and supporters for all they have done and continue to do for the club.

To the committee members who steer the ship in the background and on the frontline I thank you for your dedication and desire in the shared ambitions to make the club great.

A Happy New Year to @followers

Richey Magee
Proud Chairman of Oxford Sunnyside Fc
